Our Story

Sarah Khan
Centre Director & Networker
Sarah started all this!
Sarah spent part of her late teens working in Romania and Austria, supporting refugees and street children to safer situations. Sarah has always wanted to help others, she is full of energy (ADHD self-diagnosis) and focus to ensure she is a useful resource. She adapts her learning to meet that need, putting her hand to pretty much anything; from tax returns to managing tricky behaviours with a therapeutic approach. So, whilst caring for her 4th baby, of course she started an inner-city voluntary support project for young parents in Derby. Even as her family grows, Sarah always finds time to do more.
Sarah became a foster carer in 2014. She also opened Kip McGrath Worcester North in the same year, just a couple of months before welcoming in her first foster newborn.
Sarah, having been married for nearly 23 years, is a mother of six; five of her own children and a long-term foster daughter who she is in the process of adopting this year. All her children are teenagers and young adults now so her work place is home from home.
She also has a menagerie of rescued animals! (You think we’re joking?!) Sarah recognises the therapeutic benefit of animal care for anyone who is struggling to emotionally regulate or even just to maintain some calm.
The combination of running Kip McGrath and her position as Governor to the Worcestershire Virtual School allowed Sarah to see how limited educational provision is for children who have suffered significant trauma or are unable to engage in mainstream education. As always, she was motivated to fill that gap!
Sarah started N-able to provide something different for children who can’t thrive in a mainstream setting for whatever reason. She envisaged a warm, welcoming and safe therapeutic environment for young people where support is tailored to need, no more jamming square pegs in round holes! Sarah brought the rest of our team together to make her vision a reality.
Sarah does everything she can to advocate for young people, ensuring their voices are heard in meetings with partner agencies to underpin successful planning. She works closely with parents and carers supporting them with parenting their young people and offering time, a listening ear and advice to those who need it.
Choosing to take students aged 11-25yrs was designed to help those who are not quite ready to pass their Maths and English at 16 and gives them the additional time they require to develop both socially, emotionally and academically.
Where possible Sarah loves to re-employ our very own students, for them to pass on everything they’ve learnt with us to the next cohort of students.
She spends time investing in networking and working positively with all secondary schools in Worcestershire and beyond and Worcestershire LA.
Sarah loves spending time with friends and her huuuuge family. She is active and sporty playing football for a ladies team 3 times a week (even cultivated the latest British High Jump Champion – her son), she attends the gym, but not for any of that slow yoga stuff, she needs to be moving!
Sarah’s role within N-able now is broad but she stays as passionate as ever as N-able grows rapidly with its fantastic reputation. The team has grown and adapted and we are all excited about what the future holds for the young people that attend here.
We challenge you to identify an unmet need that we can’t tailor a support package to!
“CONNECTION is key” is Sarah’s motto for N-able knowing the importance of connecting with the young people to open up the opportunity for them to become open to learning again.
She will be your first port of call if you want to book an introductory meeting or a visit.
